Fast Simulation and Modeling

This project involves development of the engineering, software design, and validation & verification requirements for a software system that can provide faster-than-real-time simulation and modeling of electricity grid dynamics over a range of different geographic and time domains. The project will be completed in three phases: (1) definition of technical requirements, (2) system development for critical grid applications, and (3) FSM system development for remaining grid applications. When it is fully developed, the automated controls of the FSM system will anticipate problems and be capable of reconfiguration and self-restoration in response to changing conditions. This project is supported by the Consortium for Electric Infrastructure to Support a Digital Society (CEIDS), a joint initiative of the Electricity Innovation Institute (E2I) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
